Celebrating the life of

Lyndon Thomas Walker

March 12, 1922 - May 14, 2008

Lyndon Thomas Walker

Lyndon Thomas Walker, 86, died May 14, 2008 at Hospice House after a short but dignified battle with pancreatic cancer.
Lyndon has been a Savannah resident since the age of four and attended Commercial High School. He joined the Navy in 1942 and was stationed in the South Pacific at Guadal Canal where he serviced aircraft from the carriers as they pushed up the Solomon Isles in World War II. After his stent in the Navy, Lyndon joined the Air National Guard as a Flight Engineer. He retired in 1971 after logging slightly more than 9000 flight hours. While Lyndon flew the world over in his career with the Guard, his most memorable assignment was as Second Engineer on the first flight of the C124 in the late 1960's, bound for Saigon, Vietnam carrying Chatham area cookies and goodies for the servicemen.
In his younger years, Lyndon joined the Chatham Motorcycle Club where he enjoyed the camaraderie of riding his Harley with his friends. But perhaps the greatest thrill for him was when he joined the SEBASSN, a boat racing association, and raced his class "C" Hydroplane. Lyndon was also a member of the Mason's Ancient Landmark Lodge No. 231, F&AM.

He his survived by his daughters, Saralyn John Hodges and Patricia Bart Picasso of Savannah and his son, Ben Betsy Walker of Fayetteville, Georgia, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his former wife Olive Dixon and was preceded in death by his longtime friend Clara Dykes.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel with burial in Bonaventure Cemetery.
